Our goal is to expand the use and understanding of EM® Technology. We accomplish this through research, product development, education, and collaboration with individuals, organisations, and governments to apply EM® Technology in various sectors.
We aim to make farming, waste management, and environmental care more sustainable and regenerative. This includes healthier soil, cleaner water, reduced chemical use in farming, and improved health for people and animals through the use of Effective Microorganisms®.
We are committed to sustainability, collaboration with nature, balance, innovation, and improving the health of the environment and people. We support biodiversity, organic farming, and holistic management of land and resources.
At Microzone, we are proud to be part of a global movement towards sustainability, empowering a greener and healthier world since 1982. Our innovative EM® products have reshaped ecosystems in over 160 countries, contributing to enriched soils, thriving agriculture, and more sustainable living practices. Our commitment to sustainable practices is evident in the growth and success of our products, which help create healthier ecosystems and more vibrant communities worldwide.

Microzone's journey began with the vision and leadership of Prof. Jacobus Frederik Prinsloo. A distinguished scientist, Prof. Prinsloo holds a Doctor of Science degree in Zoology from Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (1975). Prof Prinsloo has had a distinguished career as a researcher and educator, including roles as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Zoology at the University of Fort Hare (1971-1977), the first Professor and Head of the Department of Zoology at the University of Transkei (1978-1986) and Director of the Aquaculture Research Unit at the University of the North (now Limpopo 1986-2003). Prof. Prinsloo has made significant contributions to the field through his extensive research, with 81 peer-reviewed and SAPSE-accredited publications, along with 20 papers presented in conference proceedings. He has actively participated in 17 national and 27 international conferences, showcasing his expertise. His academic excellence has been recognized with notable honours, including the 2nd best presentation award at the 1991 Aquaculture Europe International Conference, the prestigious Science Medallion from the University of the North in 1992, and the Senate Travel Grant from the same institution in 1995.

EM® Technology was introduced to South Africa by EMROSA, marking the beginning of a transformative journey in sustainable agriculture. South Africa first encountered Prof. Higa’s EM® Technology in 1997, aimed at advancing sustainable crop production and improving environmental management.

This success led to the incorporation of EM® Technology into all levels of the Integrated Aquaculture Agriculture Food Production System experiments at the Research Centre. Prof. Higa, impressed by Prof. Prinsloo’s effective application of EM® Technology, invited him to organize the 6th International Kuyesi Nature Farming Congress in 1999, held at the University of Pretoria and the University of the North. Prof. Prinsloo presented two papers on his findings, which played a crucial role in integrating EM® Technology into the practices of major commercial food producers in South Africa, such as ZZ2 (tomatoes and onions), Rugani (carrots), and Al-3 Boerdery (potatoes).
Prof. Prinsloo’s remarkable achievements with EM® Technology led to invitations to present research at international EM® Nature Farming congresses in Japan, North Korea, New Zealand, Australia, and Germany.
Prof. Prinsloo founded Microzone Polokwane CC (now Microzone Pty Ltd) in 2001, focusing on expanding EM® applications outside of the Aquaculture Research Unit, and driving global sustainability efforts with lasting impact.
