One of the well-known applications of EM•Bokashi is it’s use to ferment food waste. The method involves layering organic food scraps with EM•Bokashi inoculant in an airtight container. The bran/molasses serves as the food for the microorganisms, which are the same natural microorganisms found in soil. The container must have an air-tight lid and a spigot at the bottom to drain off the liquid that is produced. The liquid must be drained off to prevent the bucket from developing a foul odour, but the liquid serves as a very nutritious “bokashi tea” that can be used as a fertilizer. Under correct conditions the mixture quickly begins to ferment, and within 10-14 days the fermented mixture can be dug directly into the garden or added to a traditional compost bin or pile to finish its decomposition. In essence, the bokashi process is a fermentation process rather than a traditional composting method. EM•Bokashi composting is categorically different than other forms of composting since it is an anaerobic process that ferments organic material rather than fully decomposing it. Although it requires special equipment and materials, EM•Bokashi composting produces by-products in a very short time that are highly nutritious for plants and can serve as a source of raw material for other forms of composting.
EM•Bokashi can also be sprinkled over larger and conventional compost piles at 2-5% by weight during preparation or turning of the pile. It is recommended to use in combination with diluted EM•Agri to correct the moisture content of compost piles and further enhance the composting process.
It has been found that EM•Bokashi also acts as an effective organic compost when applied directly. Sprinkle well matured EM•Bokashi lightly over the growing bed and till into the ground. Perform preparation 1-2 weeks prior to planting to allow time for organic acids to dissipate and avoid root burn.
EM•Bokashi AH enhances animal feed by boosting nutritional value, improving digestive health, and reducing odors. It extends shelf life, increases palatability, and supports sustainability by recycling organic materials. Overall, it promotes healthier, more productive animals. EM•Bokashi products are available in 1kg, 5kg and 20kg containers. Please contact info@mzp.co.za or +27 (0)66 529 0724 for pricing and availabilty on large volumes. EM•Bokashi products might need production time if not in stock.
EM•Bokashi accelerates the decomposition of organic waste, producing compost more quickly than traditional methods. Its unique blend of beneficial microorganisms accelerates fermentation, enhancing compost quality. The application is straightforward—just mix EM•Bokashi with kitchen scraps or garden waste—making it easy for both beginners and experienced gardeners to use.
EM•Bokashi generates nutrient-rich compost that boosts soil health, structure, and fertility, fostering improved plant growth.
